8.4 Software Copyright

Computer software is covered by the 'Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988'.

Under the act, in the case of copyrighted software, it is illegal to:

  • copy software (with exception made for backup).
  • run illegally copied software.

Some software licenses make provision for copies of the software to be used 'like a boook'.
